{"id":2104,"date":"2013-04-07T17:24:09","date_gmt":"2013-04-07T21:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/?p=2104"},"modified":"2013-05-06T07:52:43","modified_gmt":"2013-05-06T11:52:43","slug":"a-tech-inspection-and-drilling-the-aft-deck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/?p=2104","title":{"rendered":"A tech inspection, and drilling the aft deck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My EAA volunteer Tech Counselor came over this weekend. \u00a0With the fuse upright, I wanted another set of expert eyes to look at our work. \u00a0We ended up fixing a handful of rivets that needed a few more hits with the gun, and also drilled out and replaced a couple that I wasn&#8217;t happy with. \u00a0All in all, it was a successful inspection and Bob thinks we&#8217;re building a fine ship. \u00a0Thanks again, Bob!<\/p>\n<p>While Bob was around we rechecked the fuselage level and made a couple of tweaks, then drilled the aft deck. \u00a0This is an important step, since once the deck is in place, the fuselage is torsionally rigid &#8211; any twist is locked in for good.<\/p>\n<p>With level double-checked, I clamped the deck in place and drilled it to the longerons&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/IMG_8456.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2105\" alt=\"Deck drilled\" src=\"https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/IMG_8456-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/IMG_8456-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/IMG_8456-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mightyrv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/IMG_8456-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a>&#8230;and boy is this structure stiff when the deck is in place. \u00a0After drilling &#8211;
